A Little About Midwestern State University

Midwestern State University, also known as MSU Texas, is a public liberal arts university and the only public institution with an emphasis on liberal arts located in Wichita Falls, Texas.

Midwestern State University was founded as Wichita Falls Junior College in 1922. In 1946, it was upgraded and renamed Hardin College and by January 1950, it had become Midwestern University.

In 1975, its name was changed to Midwestern State University by the Texas Legislature. From its humble beginnings as a “municipal junior college housed in a high school building, MSU Texas has become a state university and a member of the Texas Tech University (TTU) system with a campus coverage of 255 acres of land and 70 buildings, offering a wide variety of academic programs in liberal and fine arts, mathematics, sciences, business and applied sciences.”

Midwestern State University has seven colleges with 49 undergraduate programs, which offer 44 majors and 34 minors, as well as 27 graduate programs. In terms of aesthetics, Midwestern State University is said to be the most beautiful campus in Texas. However, beauty is not one of the most attractive features of choosing a university to attend.

Criteria For Selecting A School

When high school or postgraduate students begin their search for a university to attend, they look out for several things: school ranking, quality of academic program, grades required and most importantly of all, the cost of tuition.

Having that information will help the prospective students and their parents plan how the schooling will go and whether or not to use financial aid. Therefore, students look for schools that have all the qualities they require as well as low tuition costs.

Why Choose Midwestern State University?

First of all, the school is located in Texas, and according to reports, the state of Texas has the most affordable rates of tuition both for in-state and out-of-state students.

For those who might be a bit confused, in-state tuition refers to the amount of money a student who is resident in a state or went to high school in a state pays for tuition in the state’s school.

In this context, an in-state student would be a student who is from Texas, lives in Texas or attended high school in Texas, and whose parents/guardians pay taxes to the Texas government.

On the other hand, out-of-state tuition refers to the money a student who is not from a state, does not live in the state or has never attended high school in a state pays for tuition at the state’s school.

Secondly, Midwestern State University was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the 10 public schools with the cheapest out-of-state tuition. So think about it: if the out-of-state tuition is so cheap that it is recognized in the top ten list, how would the in-state tuition be? Cheaper!
